Revive Quiet Day – Saturday 12th March

Take time to explore your thirst and longing for God
Discover what he wants to provide in your life

This Cup… This Life

A cup can be a useful image for our life in God and a reminder of our spiritual thirst. It is a vessel – a container designed to hold something. A cup or mug is routinely filled and emptied. It can tell us about ourselves; we see flaws, chips and stains. Like cups our lives can be containers of God’s presence. We can be cups full of goodness, bringing life to others … vessels of restorative energy.

Jesus thirsted to do God’s will but equally also prayed in the garden of Gethsemane that the cup of suffering would be taken from him. Drinking the cup set before us is often translated as dealing with what is set before us – bitter or sweet.

The cup provides an opportunity for bringing our emptiness before God, our need of God’s refreshment to him to provide all we need for abundant life.

This retreat day is an opportunity to take more time with this rhythm of emptying and being filled, to explore our own thirsting and longing, to discover what God wants to provide in our lives.

The schedule and activities will be designed to give you space to use this time as the Spirit leads you.
All are invited to bring a favourite, significant mug or cup.

Who is Revd Kerry Tucker?

Kerry TuckerKerry grew up in South Africa and started her working life as a primary school teacher. She started her theological training in South Africa and completed it in England.

Kerry was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Kitwe, confirmed in the Methodist church in South Africa and ordained in the Church of England, all of which led to her commitment to appreciating and valuing the integrity of all denominations and all churchmanship traditions.

She was one of the first women to be accepted for training for ministry and was ordained in 1994.

Her ordained ministry began in the diocese of Natal, South Africa and continued in the dioceses of Southwark, Ely, Oxford and Guildford.
